WELCOME!

Inkeri-seura (Association of Ingrian Finns) was founded by the community of Ingrian Finns, who lived in Finland before World War II. The society had existed up to the beginning of the 1990s, but due to a decrease of the number of its members it was officially closed. In 2008 the society was re-established by Ingrian Finns who had migrated to Finland in the 1990s. The society (it's new name Association of Ingrian Finns of Helsinki region) is the member of SuomenInkeri-Liitto (Ingrian Finns Organisation of Finland). InkerinViesti is a printing press magazine of the society.

Elderly migrants in Helsinki

alt

The Union offers its members information and guidance with respect to currently important issues, holds regional meetings, and provides education.
As a key national organization in elderly care, the Union participates in the preparation of legislation, the work of committees and groups in public administration, and as a member in the activities of national co-operative organizations.

Home repair advice for war veterans and the aged

The home repair instructors at the Central Union for the Welfare of the Aged work all around Finland. They help war invalids and veterans in assessing and planning repair work for their homes, in applying for repair allowances, and in finding contractors to carry out the repairs. The repair advice is provided free of charge. Contact information for the repair instructors can be found on the Union web page.

Activities for seniors

The purpose of activities for seniors is to promote the psychological and social well-being of senior citizens in the metropolitan area. Activities include clubs, groups, volunteer activities, recreational activities, activities with relatives, and public relations work.

Information

The Central Union for the Welfare of the Aged provides the general public information about the aged as well as the Union itself and its member associations. The public relations activities are intended to promote a positive attitude towards old age and the elderly among the public and the employees in the field. The Union publishes the oldest magazine in the field called Vanhusty [Working with the Aged].

On 18th of January Inkeri-seura seniors learned about the activities of the National Union of Seniors. The main motto of the Union is spend time together, hobby together, have rest together and communicate. There are 23 000 members united in 167 communities. Finnish seniors take part actively at various classes and attend various educational courses. Being members they can gofree of chargeto the swimming pool and gymnastics halls, attend lectures or excursions. They also have an opportunity to receive a grant for holidays in Finland (in this case a senior pays only 30% of the total tour). The leisure is organized by volunteers(!), who do not get any money, but consider this activity a very important and necessary one.
