The New Year. By the old style. Athens

Share

In January 13 the Union of Russian emigrants in Greece named by S.I.Demidova noted in Athens the so called "Old New Year" - a holiday, which is not very clear to most foreigners.
According to the "Levada-Center", this year the New Year in the old style was celebrated by 52% of the inhabitants of ex-soviet countries. The business newspaper "Marker" mentioned that not only the Russians themselves and immigrants from the Soviet Union, but also the inhabitants of Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and some cantons of Switzerland celebrated this very festival.
In Greece this traditional festival brought together immigrants of all the ages - the young generation and the members of "Club 50 +" (which was founded by the Union of Russian emigrants in Greece within the EU project "Towards an active European citizenship")
The organizers of this evening prepared an exciting program: various competitions, games and quizzes. Of course, Santa Claus and Sneguroshka gave a note of the real New Year Eve not only to children but also to adults. Everybody plunged into the atmosphere of magic. And the adults became children once more and believed as children do that that the Good always would win the Evil .
The evening became an excellent opportunity to expand the circle of friends and to include more people who spoke the same language and had the same habits and traditions. That is why the Old New Year in Greece had become a real happening which gave to some of lonely and frittered people to get new friends..
